What started out as a volunteer organization in 2006 to give high school kids a healthy occupation of time has morphed into a full-time nonprofit that employs 22 individuals.
Elite Game Changer Safe School opened in 2022 as a place for students in grades 6-9th grade who are suspended or expelled from their home school for aggressive or egregious behavior. These students come to us angry, defiant, and often full of self-loathing. They generally have attendance problems and low GPAs, along with these behavioral issues.
It is not just our job; it is our calling and privilege to change the student’s negative behavior, improve grades, and then transition them back to their regular school. During the 2022-2023 school year, we had 171 students come through our Safe School Program. From these 171 students, major and minor disciplinary referrals were reduced by 95%, attendance improved by 72%, and the students who came to Elite Safe School raised their GPA from a 1.0 to leaving with an average of a 2.5 GPA.
Our motto at our school is “We don’t give up on any child, and we teach the students we have that their today does not dictate their tomorrow.”
Our greatest challenge at Elite Game Changer School is that because of our limited space, we cannot help even more young people. We are looking to move to a bigger space. Hence, this email to you.
